This year's excitement isn't limited to the World Cup. According to the local Arabic daily Arrayah, Qatar is planning to open the region's first Panda Park before the end of the year.
The modern habitat, which is being built at Al Khor Park, is almost 70% finished, with the remaining work nearing completion. According to the source, the park will open to visitors in the second half of this year.

The Panda Park in Qatar will cater to the needs of the pandas that are expected to fly all the way from China to the Gulf country.
The white and black fluffy animals are mostly found in temperate woods in southwest China's mountains. Their diet is virtually exclusively bamboo, with each individual requiring anywhere from 26 to 84 pounds per day, depending on which section of the bamboo they consume.
Only approximately a fifth of what they eat is digested by the tiny animals. They must, however, dwell in an area with at least two bamboo species, otherwise, they will starve. As a result of the plant's employment in a variety of manufacturing processes, the species has become endangered.
In addition to carefully prepared food, the giant panda can eat honey, eggs, salmon, yams, shrub leaves, oranges, or bananas in captivity.
The panda habitat has been in the works since August of last year when Ashghal announced that it was seeking contracts for the building of the habitat, which is designed to provide a suitable atmosphere and climate for pandas.
Despite their appeal, the populations of big creatures are in jeopardy. According to the Smithsonian National Zoo, there are only about 1,900 in the wild. 300 pandas are currently housed in zoos around the world.
It is another initiative in the region, and when it opens, it will be the Middle East's and Arab world's first panda habitat.
