Mark your calendars, stargazers! Qatar’s skies are in for a treat on the night of July 29 to 30, with up to 25 meteors per hour expected as two meteor showers peak together. The Southern Delta Aquariids and Alpha Capricornids are teaming up for one bright, streaky night—and yes, the moon will be out of the way for clear viewing.
When and Where to Watch
Your best bet? Head outside during the early hours before dawn on July 30 and look towards the southern horizon. That’s when the Aquarius constellation (where the action’s coming from) will be high enough to give you the best show.

What to Expect in the Sky
-
Southern Delta Aquariids will bring up to 20 soft, slow-moving meteors per hour—some with glowing trails.
-
Alpha Capricornids may only add 5 to 10 meteors per hour, but they’re known to be extra bright, slow, and colorful.
Where These Stars Come From
The shooting stars are actually tiny space fragments from ancient comets:
-
Delta Aquariids come from Comet 96P/Machholz, discovered in 1986.
-
Capricornids come from Comet 169P/NEAT, discovered in 2002.
So yeah, space rocks on fire. Pretty cool, right?
