Ahmedabad Crash: Air India Confirms Death of 241 Passengers

Air India confirmed that 241 of the 242 passengers and crew onboard the AI171 flight were killed in the crash in Ahmedabad on Thursday, June 12. 

Earlier that day, the Ahmedabad police commissioner confirmed that 204 bodies had been recovered from the crash site and the sole survivor from the flight was found and taken to the hospital for medical treatment. 

The passengers onboard comprised 169 Indian nationals, 53 British nationals, 7 Portuguese nationals and 1 Canadian national.

The survivor is a British national of Indian origin, whose name is Ramesh Vishwaskumar Bucharvada.

The plane crashed into the hostel of BJ Medical College and killed at least five students and injured nearly 50 others, according to the Federation of All India Medical Association.
