Scientists Discover Hidden Structures Beneath the Moon's Far Side

The team of planetary geophysicists found a huge and mysterious feature deep within the lunar surface at the far side. Combining information from gravity maps and topographic maps from two orbital spacecraft, scientists discovered a vast anomaly hundreds of miles beneath the surface. The hidden mass exists in the ancient South Pole-Aitken basin, the largest impact crater of all time, and one of the most violent in the history of the solar system. The finding offers important new clues about the internal structure of the moon and the tumultuous history of rocky planets.
