- 3 dried bay leaves

- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 (28-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon fish sauce
- 1 1/2 teaspoons granulated sugar, plus more as needed
- Shredded yellow cheddar cheese, for serving

- Make the sauce.
