Hind Rajab Nominated for Nobel Peace Prize

In a powerful and symbolic move, Hind Rajab, the 6-year-old Palestinian girl whose tragic story captured global attention during the ongoing Israel's genocide in Gaza, has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize.

A Tragedy That Moved the World

Hind’s heartbreaking final moments were heard across the world in 2024 when she called for help while trapped in a car surrounded by Israeli tanks.

She was with her mother's uncle, his wife, and four other children in a car in Gaza City when an Israeli tank fired at the vehicle.

All individuals in the car were killed instantly, except for Hind and her cousin, the 15-year-old Layan Hamadeh, who called the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and alerted them about their situation.

However, during the call, Layan's screams were heard, and the line was cut. When the PRCS called back, Hind responded, pleading for help, but she did not survive the attack.

Her body was found riddled with bullets, and her phone call went viral on social media.

The law professor at Arizona State University, Khaled Beydoun, submitted the nomination for Rajab in collaboration with the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC).

Beydoun wrote about the nomination on his social media, saying that it is to honor "every Palestinian child whose life has been stolen by war and genocide" and “to recognise the relentless horror children in Gaza have endured” in almost two years of Israel's genocide in the enclave.

Over 1,300 children have been killed during the war in Gaza, and the UN has constantly said that the enclave is a "graveyard for children".

Hind Rajab's nomination comes after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Khaled Beydoun explained that Rajab's nomination was planned long before Trump's. He also said, "We can't think of a stronger statement and response.”
