In a bold humanitarian move, a convoy of buses and private cars carrying  departed from Tunis, Tunisia on Monday, June 9, aiming to break the long-standing Israeli siege on Gaza.

Organized by activists, lawyers and medical professionals from North Africa, the convoy is set to travel through Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, before reaching Rafah.

The convoy set off after the Freedom Flotilla Coalition's Madleen was seized by Israeli forces, and the onboard 12 volunteers, including Greta Thunberg, were arrested.

The Tunisian civil society groups emphasized that the purpose of the convoy is to demand the "immediate lifting" of the two-and-a-half-month siege on Gaza.

The convoy will gather supporters from towns in southern Tunis, before crossing into Libya.
