The “Cold Moon” — December’s supermoon — returns to Qatar skies, offering a dazzling lunar finale for 2025.

The skies over Qatar are set to dazzle this week as Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced that the last supermoon of 2025 will be visible on Thursday evening, December 4, 2025

This isn’t just any full moon. Astronomers say the moon will appear about 14% larger and 30% brighter than usual — a striking effect produced because the moon will reach its closest point to Earth (perigee) just as it becomes full.

According to QCH astronomer Dr. Bashir Marzouq, those in Qatar can observe this supermoon with the naked eye from approximately 4:01 pm (local time) on December 4, continuing through the night until about 6:05 am on Friday morning, weather and clear skies permitting.

This December supermoon, sometimes referred to as the Cold Moon, marks the final supermoon of the year — the third in a series that captivated sky-watchers around the globe.

For those in Doha and beyond, the best time to catch the spectacle will be just after sunset, as moonrise brings a glowing, oversized lunar presence across the horizon. If skies stay clear, it’s a perfect opportunity for a peaceful evening under the stars, whether you’re casually gazing or capturing the moment with a camera.

With 2025 drawing to a close, this supermoon offers one last celestial celebration — a reminder of the beauty above and a moment for communities across Qatar to look up together.
