Rajkumar Rao ditches comedy for crime in Maalik, a dark action thriller about power, rebellion, and survival against the odds.

After the comic Ranjan Tiwari in 'Bhool Chuk Maaf', Bollywood star Rajkumar Rao takes on a gangster avatar in his upcoming film 'Maalik'.

The trailer for the film was released on Monday, July 1, which shows an underdog's rise to power, despite living in a world where the powerful elite show no mercy for the poor.

Rao's character says in the trailer, "What if I wasn't born a ruler, I could become one."

However, after he has risen to power, he is challenged by a police inspector, played by Prosenjit Chatterjee, which leads to a cat and mouse chase, which is violent and ruthless.

Alongside Rao and Chatterjee, the film features Manushi Chhillar, Huma Qureshi, and Swanand Kirkire.

Pulkit has directed the film, showing never-ending violence, intense power play, and much more. He also wrote the script for the film alongside Jyotsana.

'Maalik' is set to hit theaters on July 11, alongside various Bollywood romances. Will Rajkumar Rao impress in this new avatar?
