Qatar Prohibits Outdoor Work for Laborers
Qatar Implements Outdoor Work Ban to Protect Laborers From Heat Stress During Summer Months
The Ministry of Labour has announced the enforcement of Ministerial Decision No. 17 of 2021 on heat stress prevention, which prohibits outdoor work for labourers between 10:00 AM and 3:30 PM from June 1 to September 15, 2026. This decision aligns with Qatar’s ongoing efforts to ensure workplace safety and protect workers during the harsh summer months.
The regulation is part of Qatar’s national initiatives to create a safer working environment amid extreme heat. By restricting outdoor labor during the hottest hours of the day, the ministry aims to prevent heat-related illnesses and ensure workers' well-being.
The ban applies to all outdoor work, including construction, landscaping, and other labor-intensive activities. Employers are expected to adjust work schedules and provide adequate shade and hydration for workers during permitted hours.
Qatar has been actively working to improve labor conditions, particularly in response to international scrutiny. This measure underscores the country’s dedication to worker safety and sustainable labor practices, especially as temperatures in the region soar during summer.
Employers and workers are advised to familiarize themselves with the updated regulations to ensure compliance and avoid penalties. The ministry has also emphasized the importance of preventive measures, such as providing cooling stations and appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
As Qatar continues to prioritize worker welfare, this decision reflects its broader commitment to creating a safe and sustainable work environment for all laborers.
