Qatar moved up two places in the recently released Global Innovation Index (GII) report, to 50th place globally with a score of 33.4, compared to 32.9 last year.

Meanwhile, Qatar comes as the Middle East's third most innovative country, following the UAE, in 32nd place globally, and Saudi Arabia, in 48th place globally.

The report was prepared by the United Nations' World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and examined 132 economies around the world.

The GII 2023 used 80 indicators to assess each country's innovative capabilities and measurable results. 

The report said Qatar improved its performance in converting innovation input into output performance. 

The GII input pillars included human capital and research, institutions, infrastructure, market sophistication, and business sophistication, while output performance measured knowledge and technology outputs, and creativity.
