PEMRA confirms Lazawaal Ishq is strictly digital — no television airing for Ayesha Omar’s controversial new dating show

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has officially clarified that Lazawaal Ishq, the reality dating show hosted by Ayesha Omar, will not air on any television channel licensed by PEMRA

Announced recently, Lazawaal Ishq is being produced as a YouTube-exclusive show. Omar has stated that it’s aimed at Urdu-speaking audiences globally, introducing a format based on the Turkish hit Aşk Adası

The content will feature four men and four women living together in a luxury villa, with games, alliances, romantic and dramatic interactions, and ultimately a “winning couple.” The format spans around 100 episodes and is entirely social media-based.

The clarification comes amid complaints and strong debate after Lazawaal Ishq’s promo dropped. Many asked whether the show would be broadcast on national television; others expressed concern over the content and its alignment with cultural norms.

PEMRA’s response underlined that its rules apply only to licensed TV broadcasters, not digital platforms like YouTube.

For now, Lazawaal Ishq remains a digital venture — a landmark move in Pakistan’s entertainment space that underscores the growing divide between online content and traditional media regulation.
