India Directs Media Platforms to Remove Pakistani Content
Following the Pahalgham attack, India directs OTT platforms to immediately halt streaming Pakistani films, shows, and music amid rising tensions.
The Government of India has issued an advisory, directing all OTT platforms, media streaming services, and digital intermediaries to discontinue web series, films, songs, podcasts, and other content from Pakistan after the Pahalgham attack and the ongoing Operation Sindhoor.
The advisory dates May 8, 2025 and has been issued under Part II of the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
The advisory states that these platforms must "ensure that content hosted or streamed does not threaten India's sovereignty, integrity, national security, or public order".
The advisory also read, "OTT platforms, media streaming platforms and intermediaries operating in India are advised to discontinue the web-series, films, songs, podcasts and other streaming media content, whether made available on a subscription-based model or otherwise, having its origins in Pakistan with immediate effect."
The decision comes days after India launched Operation Sindhoor in Pakistan in the early hours of Wednesday.
The news comes after social media profiles of Pakistani celebrities were blocked in India following the Pahalgham attack.
