A major internet disruption hit some of the world’s most popular apps and websites after Amazon Web Services (AWS) experienced a large-scale outage early Monday morning.
Platforms including Amazon, Roblox, Snapchat, Wordle, and more than 20 other major services were affected, according to Downdetector. Reports of outages began around 7:30 a.m., with users across the globe saying that apps were not loading or functioning properly.
Other affected platforms include Ring, Fortnite, Canva, Zoom, Duolingo, Slack, Signal, and PlayStation Network, among many others.
The issue appears to stem from Amazon’s cloud computing division, AWS, which underpins much of the modern internet by providing companies with rented server infrastructure.
According to Amazon’s official service status page, the company was seeing “increased error rates” and delays with multiple AWS services, disrupting app functionality and website access worldwide.
Duolingo confirmed it was undergoing a “maintenance break,” while Wordle displayed a message asking users to “Please try again later.”
The outage reportedly began around 8 a.m. in the UK (midnight Pacific Time) and has caused chaos across industries relying on AWS for operations, from gaming and education to news and entertainment.
AWS is currently the world’s most popular provider of cloud services, generating $108 billion in 2024 and accounting for the majority of Amazon’s profits. Its infrastructure powers thousands of apps and websites globally — meaning even a minor glitch can have ripple effects across the internet.
While AWS has not yet confirmed the cause of the failure, engineers are working to restore affected services. Users have taken to social media platforms to share memes, vent frustration, and track updates on what’s quickly becoming one of the biggest internet outages of 2025.
