Digital Nomad Visa to be Introduced in the Philippines
A new digital nomad visa lets remote workers enjoy the Philippines' tropical lifestyle while staying connected to global careers.
The Philippines has introduced a digital nomad visa after the country's President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. issued an executive order on April 24 to allow digital nomads to travel to the country and work remotely.
The visa will be provided to digital nomads who travel while working online because they are not required to be in a specific location.
The digital nomad visa will allow foreign nationals to reside and work in the Philippines for overseas companies.
The Philippines ranked seventh in the World Economic Forum's list of Remote Work Hub Countries in the World in 2023.
Eligible Individuals are those who are 18 years older or older, have evidence of remote work using digital technology, and have a sufficient income generated outside of the Philippines.
Applicants must not have a criminal record, have a valid health insurance, and must be a national of a country that offers digital nomad visas to Filipinos and has a foreign service post maintained by the Philippines.
If the country of the foreign national does not have Philippine foreign service post, they can apply for one in the nearest country where the Filipino foreign service post is located.
The digital nomad visa cannot be obtained by individuals who are already employed in the Philippines.
Digital nomads can stay in the Philippines fora maximum for one year and may renew it for the same duration.
Applications are not open yet, but they are expected to open within 60 days from the effectivity of the order.
