PHIVOLCS reported a whopping 3,685 aftershocks since the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that rocked Bogo City, Cebu. Out of these, 18 were strong enough for residents to actually feel, ranging between magnitude 1.0 to 5.1.

Casualties and Damage

The Office of Civil Defense confirmed that the death toll has climbed to 73. Many survivors are now forced to sleep on roadsides, some even wrapping themselves in plastic sheets for cover, as damaged structures remain unsafe to return to.

More Aftershocks Expected

PHIVOLCS director Dr. Teresito Bacolcol said aftershocks could continue for days—or even weeks. The good news: they usually weaken and lessen over time. But still, people are warned to stay alert.

Safety First, Always

Bacolcol urged residents not to rush back into cracked or unstable buildings. He advised that structures should first be checked by municipal or city engineers, since even minor damage could turn dangerous if another strong aftershock hits.
