Ben & Jerry's Co-Founder Arrested at Senate Hearing for Gaza
Ben Cohen detained during Senate protest over US funding for Israel and its impact on Gaza, as Ben & Jerry's continues its outspoken political stance.
Ben & Jerry's co-founder, Ben Cohen, was arrested at a US Senate hearing over military aid to Israel and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
Protestors disrupted the hearing on Wednesday, May 14, during Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr.'s testimony.
Cohen was arrested and charged with a misdemeanor, and six other protestors were also arrested and charged with more serious offences, according to the BBC News.
A video shows Ben Cohen being taken away by the police from the building with his hands tied behind his back.
Another video was shared of him saying, "Congress kills poor kids in Gaza by buying bombs, and pays for it by kicking kids off Medicaid in the US," after some asked him about the reason for his arrest.

During the hearing, Cohen said, "Congress sends bombs that kill children in Gaza and pays for it with cuts to MEDICAID. Hands off MEDICAID, Congress kills."
Ben & Jerry's is vocal in its support for a ceasefire in Gaza. It is currently involved in an intense legal battle with its parent company Unilever, which began in March last year when Ben & Jerry's filed a case against Unilever, accusing it for firing chief executive David Stever over disagreements about the brand's political campaigns.
